Multilingual Team Teaching: Connecting Language, Learning and Engagement

This workshop introduces Multilingual Team Teaching (MTT), a whole-school approach that brings subject learning, language development and teacher collaboration together. Drawing on a heteroglossic developmental bilingual model, participants will explore how multilingual teaching can move beyond translation, enabling pupils to draw purposefully on their full linguistic repertoires to deepen understanding, develop academic vocabulary and strengthen engagement in learning. Through practical examples and a hands-on task, participants will consider the language demands within subject learning, collaborative teaching approaches and the systems needed to make multilingual practice consistent and sustainable across a school.
